The research highlighted the tension between the communities' desire for autonomy and the necessity of initial government support due to resource constraints. This support is crucial for the successful initiation of CBET projects, emphasizing the importance of balancing indigenous autonomy with external aid to foster sustainable tourism development.

    中南米地域は先住民の居住地が点々とする。メキシコ内においても多くの先住民が暮らしている。これらの先住民の中でエコツーリズムの観点から注目されているのがオアハカ(Oaxaca)州のシエラ・ノルテ(Sierra Norte)地域である。本調査・研究はこの先住民地区にて行われているエコツーリズムが開始されるに至った背景とその実施状況を現地のフィールドワークを通じ明確にし、先住民によるエコツーリズムの発生メカニズムの解明につなげることである。なお、近隣であるが異なる民族系統が居住するプエブラ(Puebla)州においても調査を実施し、比較検討した。

    The tourism industry, accounting for approximately 10% of the global GDP and population, significantly influences people and nature worldwide. The growing emphasis on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has increased expectations for the tourism industry's contribution to SDGs No.1 (No poverty), No.11 (Sustainable cities and communities), No.13 (Climate Action), and No.15 (Life on land). Consequently, a shift from conventional mass tourism to sustainable and responsible tourism is evident, with community-based eco-tourism (CBET) gaining prominence. Although CBET aims at regional development, its growth is inconsistent. Various factors contribute to or hinder its progression, indicating an underlying mechanism driving its progression. This paper seeks to identify factors driving local communities to establish successful CBET initiatives by reviewing previous studies, clarifying CBET's position, and defining the research question: "What factors drive local community members to form successful CBET?" Subsequently, the author formulates a hypothesis based on this question and investigates it through field research focusing on Latin American countries. This approach aims to reveal the critical factors shaping CBET development and offer insights into the practical implications and potential benefits for communities and the broader tourism industry in achieving sustainability and fostering economic growth.

    「メキシコ南部に位置するオアハカ州は、山岳地帯や熱帯雨林など多様な自然環境に恵まれている。また、多くの先住民族が住む地域であり、豊かな伝統文化を継承している。鮮やかな色彩と複雑な刺繍が特徴的な衣装を思い出す人も多いであろう。その中心であるオアハカ市から車で二時間弱の場所に、アポアラという村がある。この地区は自然の美しさと豊かな文化遺産で知られ、エコツーリズムが盛んである。村のはずれの峡谷にはツーリスト用のロッジがあり、先住民のコミュニティによって運営されている。早朝六時に目が覚め、ロッジの屋根に目を向けると、ムナジロミソサザイ（Canyon Wren）がこちらを向いて挨拶してくれた。」の説明に基づく写真

    「中米ニカラグアの国鳥」の写ー添文：日本から見ると、ニカラグアは一見、謎に包まれた国かもしれません。中央アメリカの一部であるこの国は、湖沼と火山の地形によって特徴付けられます。飛行機で首都マナグアへと下降する際、まず目に入るのが壮大なマナグア湖で、かつてこの地が火山活動によって形成されたことを教えてくれます。この湖を取り囲むように広がる豊かな緑深い風景の中で出会ったのが、一際目を引くカラフルな野鳥、ニカラグアの国鳥であるアオマユハチクイモドキです。ラケットのような形状をした尾が印象的で、青色の横線が入った目の上の特徴的な眉は、そのまま彼らの名前になったようです。宿泊していたロッジの裏庭に遊びに来たところを撮影することができました。
