Soil animals have key functions to link between above- and belowground ecosystems in detritus food web. This study focused on the function of organic matter retention in deeper soil layer by soil animals. From microcosm experiments, I found two results. First, earthworms conserved organic matter in not only surface but also deeper soil layer. Second, the amounts of phosphorus in soils were increased by the train millipede at adult stage on larch forest floor.
