    本研究の目的は、鳴門海峡および明石海峡以西の瀬戸内海沿岸域において、湖底堆積物および海岸低地堆積物から津波堆積物を発見し、津波履歴を解明することである。 令和4年度は、11月に播磨灘に面する香川県東かがわ市引田地区の大池で、湖上からのボーリングマシンによる打ち込み式コアリングによって湖底堆積物を掘削した。最深部の水深約4mから3.5mの4地点で、湖底および湖底からの深度約50cmから開始し、最長6mのコアを合計9本、総延長44mのコアを採取した。 掘削したコアを半裁し、肉眼観察および写真撮影、さらに高知大学海洋コア総合研究センターでのX線CT画像撮影によって柱状図を作成した。携帯用帯磁率計で10cmごとに帯磁率を測定した。S-1-Aコア(全長4m)の224試料と連続性の良いS-2-Bコア(全長5m)の168試料に対し、新潟大学災害・復興科学研究所でレーザ回折式粒度分布測定装置(Malvern Panalytical社製・マスターサイザー3000)で粒度分析した。湖水環境の指標となる珪藻分析は、S-2-Bコアの16試料に対し予察的に行った。さらにS-1-Aコアの3試料、S-2-Bコアの12試料の主に植物片の放射性炭素年代を測定した。 令和5年度は、S-1-Aコアの101試料、S-2-Bコアの190試料、S-2-Aコア(全長6mの上部2m)の61試料に対し、新潟大学のイオウ濃度分析装置(堀場製作所・EMIA-120)でイオウ濃度を測定した。S-2-Aコアの235試料に対し、粒度分析を行った。S-2-Bコアに対しては、珪藻分析を異なる層相ごとの試料に対して行い、珪藻の環境指標種群を同定し、湖水環境の変化を明らかにした。ほぼ全てのコアからポリカーボネート製のキューブに帯磁率測定用試料を封入し、磁化率計(Bartington社製・MS2)で測定し、粒度および硫黄濃度との関連を調べた。
  • State analysis of micro area of omphacite inclusions within garnet from eclogite

    We have verified that Raman spectrums are useful as an indicator for the redox state of iron in omphacite included within garnet from eclogites. Eclogites from ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belts often show symplectitic aggregate or lamellae composed of quartz needles. They are hardly observed in omphacite included within garnet or zircon, those are considered to have avoided the influence of retrograde metamorphism. Another problem in temperature estimation using geothermometer is the determination of Fe3+content in clinopyroxene. Mossbauer spectroscopy and micro-XANES (X-ray absorption near edge structure) in photon factory are effective for the measurement of the Fe3+/Fe2+ratio. In the former, mineral separation is necessary and it takes more than one day to collect spectra from one sample, but in situ analysis at the micron size is possible and it takes less than 2h to collect spectra in the latter except limited facilities.

    Geological structures of the Shimanto Belt in southwestern Kyusyu and Tokunoshima Island have been investigated. In the Hokusatsu district, layers of basaltic lava, chert and mudstone form imbricate structure. The Yaseo area in the Satsuma Peninsula carries one of the serpentinite occurrences in the Shimanto Belt. Two majorserpentinite bodies are exposed in the areas extending about 100 x 50 m and 200 x 70 m.These overlie west-dipping layers of sandstone and mudstone with subhorizontal boundaries.In the Choyasan area of the Nansatsu district, layers of mudstone and sandstone generally dip west with westerly younging. Geology of the central part of Tokunoshima Island is composed of pelitic-psammitic schsits, granitic intrusive rocks and sporadic serpentinite. Lenticular bodies of serpentinite dipping northwest in low angles are distributed in the pelitic schist. Dark-shaded veins with up to 20 cm thick appearin the pelitic and psammitic schists at the mouth of Akirigami River in western Tokunoshima. Fragments of the country rocks in variable sizes and fine-grained particles fill the veins.
  • Dehydration and melting process in deep subduction zone-Zircon geochemistry from the Sanbagawa eclogite-

    Partial melting texture was discovered from the Sanbagawa eclogoite which had been subducted down to upper mantle at Cretaceous time. Zircons were separated from the eclogite. The zircons exhibit sector zoning on the core to mantle under the CL images. SHRIMP U-Pb age dating and REE analysis from the zircons indicate that the partial melting had occurred in the case of young (hot) slab at upper mantle depth. The melting reaction was due to phengite decomposition. The zircon and the garnet were grown together in the presence of melt.
  • Fluid-rock interaction deduced from geological time bright-layer in the middle crust

    The geological time bright-layer was recognized in the low-P/T metamorphic rocks. We found that silicified rocks distribute as layers or lenticular bodies, and they are restricted in the greenscist facies conditions within structurally vertical thickness. Quartz veins crossing high-angles with schistosity were preferentially developed. The mode of occurrences of quartz veins indicates that silicified rocks are competent relative to underlying rocks. Rock boundary with high competence contrast is probably a good reflector of seismic waves. Seismic bright-layer reflections in the middle crust would be arisen from observed silicified rock layers in this study, if those are distributed in the deep crust to a considerable extent.

    The excavation of the sources sites at MT Kanayama in the 4years from 2006 to 2009 has revealed the stone tools production of the upper Paleolithic era, the Jomon periods and the Yayoi periods. When the production of the stone tools at MT Kanayam is compared with other settlement sites, The special occupation groups for The production and the circulation are presumed in each community of Tyugoku and Sikoku area far distant from MT Kanayama. At present I have presumed that the wide distribution of the tools of SANUKITE in MT Kanayama is due to the wide circle of their activities and the sipping in Seto Inland Sea. In this investigation the firefly X line analysis gets the result which shows the little difference in element in the four areas which are formed of the north, the south, the east and the west. From now we will be able to connect each settlement sites with four areas in MT Kanayama in the production and the circulation.
  • Prediction of Long-period Earthquake Ground Motions and Sloshing Control of Large Tanks

    本研究では、2003年十勝沖地震時の長周期地震動特性を調べ、スロッシング挙動に及ぼす非線形性の影響を検討するとともに、巨大地震に伴う長周期強震動のシミュレーション手法を提案し、想定震源域における長周期地震動の破壊力を予測した。次に、タンクを対象に流体-構造連成解析を実施し、タンク側壁・浮屋根と内容液の挙動を定量的に分析した。提案したスロッシング抑制策の効果を検討した結果、その有効性が明らかになった。
  • From Chile Ridge Subduction To Magma Supply System (CHRISTMASSY) project

    This research project aims to understand 1)the emplacement mechanism of the Taitao ophiolite located nearby the Chile triple junction to clarify its origin and petrochemical characteristics of source material that caused the arc magmatism, 2)the spatial-temporal evolution of magmatisms that supposedly related to the subduction of the young and hot Chile ridge, and 3)the deep structures underneath the ridge subduction zone through seismic study. The main contributions of this research project are as follows. 1)We collected 5 tons of samples of post-Miocene igneous rocks systematically from Patagonia and established the best library for the rock samples. 2)Emplacement mechanism of the Taitao ophiolite was understood by paleomagnetic means. The plutonic section of the ohiolite must be originated nearby the mid-axis of the Chile reidge, and them obducted to the South American fore-arc. 3)The rocks of the Taitao ophiolite were confirmed to have both N-MORB and E-MORB compositions, and too accompany simultaneous granite intrusions with arc signatures. The patterns of ocean floor metamorphism along the mid-oceanic ridge section was preliminary estimated. 4)First geological maps were made for Hudson and Lautaro volcanoes, located both end Of the Patagonian volcanic gap. Systematic K-Ar dating was performed too clarify the duration of the volcanic activities. 5)Radiometric ages and petrochemical characteristics were established for adakites from the Austral Volcanic zone, together with those from Cerro Pampa and Puesto Nuevo. New genetic model for adakite were suggested. 6)radiometric ages and petrochemical investigation were done on the rocks of Somuncura, an extra-baxkarc volcanic field. Genetic models for the extra backarc volcanism were suggested. 7)Miocene granites were recognized to distributed in two (or probably three) lines that parallel the Chile trench axis. We preliminary carried petrochemical and geochronological studies. 8)With close collaboration with Dr.Priestley of the Bullard Institute, Cambridge University, we set a seismometer network near the Lat 46S.to understand the deep structures across the Chile ridge subduction zone. 9)Deep structures sere numerically predicted for a ridge subduction zone.
  • Contact metamorphism by solid-state emplacement of the ultrahigh-pressure-high-pressure metamorphic rocks

    The andalusite-sillimanite type low-pressure unit, called Daulet Suite, underlies the Kokchetav ultrahigh-pressure-high-pressure (UHP-HP) massif of northern Kazakhstan. The Daulet Suite is composed of pelitic-psammitic gneisses or schists and quartz schist with minor amounts of metacarbonate and metabasite. About 300 thin sections were examined from the Daulet metapelites, and they were divided into two mineral zones. Zone A is characterized by an assemblage of andalusite + cordierite + biotite and zone B by sillimanite + cordierite + biotite with excess K-feldspar, quartz and plagioclase in both zones. K-fedlspar appears with andalusite at lower temperatures than first formation of sillimanite. Pressure-temperature conditions of the Daulet metamorphism range from 580 to 680 ℃ at a nearly constant pressure of about 2 kbar. Comparison of composition of solid-solution minerals with a buffered assemblage indicate that the metamorphic grade increases towards the boundary with the overlying UHP-HP unit. Detailed mapping revealed that the primary structure of both the Kokchetav UHP-HP massif and its surrounding units is sub-horizontal; the UHP-HP unit has been thrust over the Daulet Suite with a top-to-the-north movement. The thermal structure of the Daulet Suite is sub-horizontal and metamorphic grade increases upwards, I.e. towards the boundary with the UHP-HP unit, whereas the thermobaric maximum of the UHP-HP unit occurs at an intermediate structural level. The upward increase in metamorphic grade within the Daulet Suite imply a contact metamorphism by the tectonic juxtaposition of the 'hot' Kokchetav UHP-HP unit at shallow crustal level.
  • Paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the oldest microfossils from the 3.5Ga Pilbara craton, western Australia

    Geologic mapping and systematic samplings have been completed in the Pilbara area, Australia in this calendar year. They are, (1) the 3.5 Ga old North Pole region where the oldest microfossils have been recognized, (2) 3.0 Ga old Cleaverville region, and (3) 2.7 Ga old Richmond region where shallow marine black shale and stromatolite are present. The collected samples were all thin-sectioned, and observed under the microscope. Some were chemically analyzed in major and trace elements by XRF, as well as REE by laser ICP-MS. Separated zircons were dated by laser ICP-MS at TIT. Metamorphic mineral assemblages were determined and their P-T conditions were estimated. Fluid inclusions were also investigated to make it clear the physico-chemical environment of early life. The results are as follows. (1) The microfossil-bearing unit forms a part of accretionary complex. (2) The physico-chemical environment where microfossils were survived was reconstructed ; it was at 2000m deep under XCO2-rich hyfrothermal system. (3) Microfossils are not cyanobacteria but chemo-fossils which had already differentiated to some extent by 3.5 Ga. (4) Microfossils formed a sub-seafloor community down to 800m along the fracture system related to hydrothermal fluid circulation. (5) New micro fossils were found from the 3.0 Ga Cleaverville region. Those are extremely large and well-preserved, suggesting a possibility of birth of eukaryotes at 3.0 Ga. (6) New microfossils were also identified from the 3.5 Ga seamount-top sediments. These may be fossils which may have begun photo-synthesis under the shallow marine environment. (7) Paleoenvironment of stromatolite-bearing unit at 2.7 Ga was reconstructed (presented at AGU, 2001 ). (8) Paleoenvironmental reconstruction of 2.7 Ga old sediments from shallow marine to deep-sea. The microfossils were newly found from those deep-sea sediments. (9) A brief summary of the history of life and the Earth was published.

    西オーストラリ,ピルバラ地塊,ノースポール地域から採集した約3000個の緑色岩試料の顕微鏡観察と系統的な鉱物組成の分析から太古代の海洋底変成作用を明らかにした。 ノースポール地域の付加した海洋地殻は太古代約35億年前の海洋底変成作用の痕跡を残し,プレーナイト-パンペリー石相から,漸移帯をへて,緑色片岩相,緑色片岩相/角閃岩相漸移帯にいたる低圧型の変成相系列に属する。 ノースポール地域のプリューム起源火山岩類と顕生代のオフィオライトを比較した。層序ではノースポール地域でのコマチアイトの出現と玄武岩類の最上位に酸性火山岩が存在することが以外は似ている。変成作用では,いくつかの顕生代のオフィオライトにも見られることであるがノースポール地域では沸石相が欠如している。アクチノ閃石の出現深度は顕生代のオフィオライトでは火山岩類の最上位から約1/4-1/3であるが,ノースポール地域でも同様であることからノースポール地域は元々の火山岩類層の大部分が付加していると考えられる。このことは太古代のプリューム起源火山岩類は,顕生代のオフィオライトと海洋地殻の厚さにそれほど違いはなかったのではないかと考えられる。これは,太古代において海洋地殻が顕生代よりも厚かったのではないかという一般的な説とは異なる結果である。 海洋底変成作用には次の2つのタイプがあると考えられる。一つは中央海嶺起源のAMORM(Archean Mid-oceanic Ridge Metamorphism),もう一つはプリューム起源のAOIBM(Archean OceanicIsland Basalt Metamophism)である。この二つの海洋底変成作用の大きな違いは,関与した熱水の二酸化炭素分圧の違いであり,AOMRMでは熱水の二酸化炭素分圧が比較的高く,AOIBMでは熱水の二酸化炭素分圧が比較的低かったと考えられる。

    Intensive 1/5000 scale field mapping in the North Pole area in Pilbara coupled with indoor analyzes has clarified the following new aspects of the 3.5 Ga greenstone belt. 1) The predominant basaltic greenstone (previously called the Mount Ada Basalt, Towers Formation and Apex Basalt by Hickman, 1983) form imbricated thrust sheets (Unit I-IV ; each composed of 1-2 km thick greenstones and thin chert), suggesting a layr-parallel shortening after the primary volcanism and sedimentation. 2) The absence of coarse-grained terrigenous clastics in the greenstone-chert units suggests a mid-oceanic rather than continental setting. 3) Numerous silica dikes called T-chert penetrated pillowed greenstones (particularly of the Unit I) to their stratigraphic top, suggesting an extensional regime prior to the contraction. 4) The gradual transition from T-chert to overlying bedded chert demonstrates a feeder and deposits relationship for silica. Bedded chert up to 60 m thick is a sum consequence of intermittent normal faulting with T-chert intrusion in several generations. 5) Bedded chert has slumping-dewatering structures, indicating a rapid and syn-deformational sedimentation. 6) Filamentous microorganisms (bacteria) from the bedded chert resemble to the known oldest ones (Schopf, 1993). 7) Eu-positive REE patterns of both T-chert and bedded chert suggest a hydrothermal origin of silica. 8) Barite vein and bedded barite in chert are also in a feeder and deposits relationship. The alleged oldest stromatolite associated with barite is of non-photosynthetic but hydrothermal origin. The non-terrigenous environment, extensional tectonic regime, and hydrothermal activity concordantly suggest a mid-oceanic ridge oprigin of these Early Archean rocks and fossils. The Archean life habitat appears analogous to modern deep-sea hydrothermal sites along MORs, although the Archean MOR depth is unknown. The layr-parallel shortening was probably resulted from subduction-accretion along an Archean trench.
  • Systematic collection and basic discription of the rock samples

    The sampling Group has mapped the following areas to collect samples systematically over the world. Those are the orogenic belts from (1) 3.9-3.6Ga Isua, SW Greenland, (2) 3.5-3.3 Ga Pilbara, 2.7-1.9Ga Hamersley and adjacent regions, W. Australia, and 3.5 Ga Barberton region of S. Africa and 2.7 Ga Zimbabwe, (3) 1.0-0.6 Ga Russian Altai-Sayan region, and (4) Permo-Triassic cherts in Inuyama, Japan. These field researches are planned to decode the first-class geologic events of the evolving Earth, namely, at boundaries of (1) Hadean/Archean, (2) Archean/Proterozoic, (3) Proterozoic/Phanerozoic, and (4) Permian/Triassic. All samples collected were preliminary described in terms of petrography, rock-forming mineralogy and major-trace element geochemistry. The followings are the brief summary of our results. (1) Origin of life goes back to 3.9Ga and born at hydrothermal system of mid-oceanic ridge. (2) Depth of seawater was 1600m above ridge crest at 3.5 Ga. XCO2 was ca. 100 times higher than that of modern mid-oceanic ridge. (3) Plate tectonics goes back to 3.9Ga, when modern-stype consuming plate boundary process has already operated by the presence of rigid plate. (4) Potential mantle temperature was 150 C higher than that of modern mid-oceanic ridge. The source mantle was richer in FeO (10wt%) than that of modern MORB (8wt%). (5) Superanoxic event was identified in both deep-sea and off-shore of oceanic islands at Permo-Triassic boundary. Moreover, it was proposed that the Proterozoic-Phanerozoic boundary has been a fate of initiation of return flow of seawater into mantle at 750Ma, based on the extensive compilation of regional metamorphic belts over the world, and a new phase diagram of (MORB+Water) established by new multi-anvil experiments. The mass extinction at Permo-Triassic boundary was speculated to be caused by kimberlitic explosive magmatism and related temporary stop of photo-synthesis. This may be associated with superplume activity.

    西オーストラリアのピルパラ地塊の数カ所において,広域変成作用の研究を行った。 1,マ-ブルバ-地域(約35億年前)は中央海嶺起源の海洋地殻とプレート内火成活動による海台による付加体である。変成度はブドウ石-パンペリ-石相からパンペリ-石-アクチノ閃石相程度で,アクチノ閃石出現のアイソグラッドを引くことができた。 2,クリーバービル-コ-ボーン地域(約33億年前)は海洋地殻の超苦鉄質岩の層序までが付加している。変成度はブドウ石-パンペリ-石相から角閃岩相上部まで変化するが,変成分帯境界は地質構造と斜交することから,海洋底変成作用ではなく海洋地殻が付加した後の広域変成作用であると考えられる。 3,マウントロー玄武岩は約27億年前の洪水玄武岩で,かつてはピルバラ地塊全体を覆っていたと考えられる。変成度は分布地域によって異なり,ブドウ石-パンペリ-石相から緑色片岩相程度である。層序に対する変成度の変化はまだ明らかになっていない。 4,カプリコーン造山帯(約19億年前)はピルバラ地塊とイルガルン地塊との衝突の際に形成された造山帯の中核をなす広域変成帯である。その一部の地域での調査の結果,変成度は緑色片岩相から角閃岩相程度であるが,他の地域でパンペリ-石-アクチノ閃石相の鉱物組み合わせが観察されており,高圧中間群の変成相系列に属する変成作用を被った可能性がある。 変成鉱物の固溶体組成を測定したのは,上記の 2,の地域のみである。今後,他の地域で解析を進め,太古代の海洋底変成作用からプレート沈み込み帯での広域変成作用,さらに他の地塊との衝突の際の広域変成作用を明らかにする予定である。
  • Relationship between melange fabrics of accretionary complex and relative convergence along the plate boundary

    Systematic changes in fabrics of melanges have been detected in rocks of the Shimanto Belt, Japan. Several shear indicators : including S-C structures, Riedel shears and folds, in the melanges indicate consistent sense of shear both in outcrop and microscopic scales. The deformation mechanisms, independent particulate flow and pressure solution, suggest that the deformation started under unlithified condition and progressed through lithification due to strain hardening. After lithification, cataclastic deformation occurred locally but most of the earlier deformation features are preserved. This process appears to have taken place along the decollement beneath the off-scraped accretionary prism. Sinistral reverse sense of shear is observed in the Campanian melange, whereas a dextral reverse sense of shear is preserved in the Early Eocene melange in the Shimanto Belt. This change in fabric is interpreted to be linked to a change in relative convergence between the subducting and overriding plates. Three different plate models have been proposed for the Late Cretaceous to Early Tertiary western Pacific margin : 1) subduction of the Kula-Pacific ridge along the continental margin, 2) subduction of the Pacific Plate since 85 Ma, and 3) subduction of the aborted Kula-Pacific ridge after 43 Ma. The obseved change in fabric of melange is consistent only with the third model, which predicts a change in relative convergence from sinistral to dextral at the appropriate time.
  • 北米西岸フランシスカン帯の変成熱構造

    フランシスカン帯のダイアブロ山地地域では高変成度のユニットが上下の低変成度のユニットの間に漸移帯を介して挟在し,アイソグラッドは地層面に平行な断層であり,その構造は高圧変成帯の上昇時に形成された2次的なもので本来の温度構造とは異なることを明らかにした。これについてはJournal of Geology誌に投稿中である。 リーチレイク山地域で採取済みの約300個の岩石試料の岩石薄片を製作した。砕屑岩類が約260個,緑色岩類が約40個,そのうち変形解析用の試料が約40個である。偏光顕微鏡による岩石薄片中の変成鉱物組み合わせによってヒスイ輝石帯(ヒスイ輝石+石英±曹長石)とヒスイ輝石が産出しない曹長石帯とに変成分帯を行った結果、高変成度のユニットが上下の低変成度のユニットの間に狭在する。ダイアブロ山地地域でみられた高変化成度のユニットと低変化成度のユニットの間の漸移帯の存在はみられなかった。アイソグラッドは地層面に平行な断層であることが明らかになった。高変成度のユニットの併置時の運動を明らかにするために,変形構造の解析を行った結果,高変成度のユニットが下位の低変成度のユニットの上に北東から併置したことが明らかになった。高変成度のユニットと上位の低変成度のユニットの境界部では明瞭な変形構造はみられなかった。その原因として境界断層沿いに蛇紋岩が貫入しているためではないかと考えることが出来る。 ヒスイ輝石帯内部の変成度の変化をより定量的に見積もるために,モードのヒスイ輝石/曹長石の比とヒスイ輝石の固溶体組成の変化とヒスイ輝石の固溶体組成を測定しているところである。また,変形の解析を行うことができなかった上部境界部でさらに定方位試料を採取し解析を行う予定である。
  • Archean Tectonics of the Pilbara craton, Western Australia

    Archean (3.5-2.5 Ga) sedimentary rocks in the Pilbara craton, Western Australia, have been regarded as succesive sequences accumulated in situ on continetal crust. Present research project has clarified, however, that these Archean sedimentary complexes are ancient accretionary complexes formed at subduction zones. Detailed field research was conducted in the Cleaverville, North Pole, Marble Bar, Camel Creek, and Beasley River areas in the granite/greenstone belts of the Pilbara craton, and following results were newly obtained. Recognition of duplex structure and oceanic plate stratigraphy of component rocktypes proved the occurrence of Archean acrretionary complex. This find indicates that plate tectonics including subduction of oceanic plate was working already at 3.5 Ga (mid-Archean time), and that the Archean granite/greenstone belt represents subduction-related Cordilleran-type orogenic belt. Furthermore, it implies that Archean granite/greensone belts in other cratons can be all re-interpreted as Cordilleran-type orogenic belts. On the other hand, some peculiar characteristics of Archean accretionary complex can be documented as follows ; 1) Archean MORB in accretionary complex is fairly thicker than those in Phanerozoic equivalents, 2) occurence of komatiitic greenstones which is absent in Phanerozoic example, and 3) metalliferous pelagic sediments including barite deposits. What was also clarified is a considerable variation in Archean accretionary complexes including komattitic grenstone (probably of oceanic plateau origin) -dominant complex, and those with strong alteration by hydrothermal venting associated with barite units. In addition, the so-called oldest (3.5 Ga) stromotolite was revealed to be a deep-sea hydrothermal deposits associated with barite. The above-mentioned results are all new to this study field, and the present project team is now trying to publish these in international journals as soon as possible.
