    Users can participate in the metaverse meeting with or without HMDs. However, it is difficult to convey the non-verbal information such as facial expressions and eye contact unlike face-to-face communication. This makes it difficult for the speakers to recognize whether the listeners are listening or not. In this research, we propose the system’s design that detects nods and change the transparency of the avatar according to the number of nods to visualize whether listeners are listening to the conversation.

  • Multilingual Guide Communication Robot with Naturally Communicates People

    In recent years, the spread of guiding robots and household robots has increased, and research on communication between humans and robots has been actively conducted. In particular, there are several communication robots that look similar to humans and can interact with humans, so they are expected to be able to communicate like humans. However, at present, it is difficult to say that communication robots are able to communicate naturally with humans. In this paper, we discuss the factors that make people like robots, based on evaluation experiments of multilingual guidance using a small robot Sota and a humanoid robot Pepper, aiming at natural communication between people and robots.

  • Using Communication Robot to Support New Lifestyle

    Communication robots have become popular, but at present they cannot be used effectively. In this research, we examined the use of communication robots to support a new lifestyle after the coronavirus epidemic. According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the new lifestyle is suggested, which people are requested to keep the certain distance, to refrain from going out and to make a habit of gargling and hand washing. Therefore, we made a prototype for the support of the new lifestyle and installed it to the communication robot Sota. By using the M-method, which is one of the design methods, the functions required for communication robots, such as watching user, giving advice, and cuddling up together, were extracted. In addition, the possibility of effective use of communication robots to support lifestyle of users was suggested by the evaluation experiment using the prototype to manage users’ health.
  • Multilingual Communication Robot with Automatic User’s Language Estimation Function

    In recent years, with the increase in the number of foreigners visiting Japan, there has been an increase in multilingual information services for foreigners using digital signage and information robots. However, in the current services, users have to select their language, which often prevents flexible and natural communication like that between people. In this study, we have developed a communication robot system that can automatically identify the language used by users and communicate naturally. For this purpose, we have developed a projector lending guide robot that can identify the user’s language by acquiring the language setting of the user’s smartphone as well as by estimating the user’s language from the responses in the conversation.

  • Quantification of “Deep” in the Wood-grain Texture

    In this study, measurement experiment of physical properties of textures was conducted. To clarify the relation between the “deep” and physical characteristics, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed by using the data of past study. As a result, it turned out that the angle of 15° with respect to specular reflection light is related to “deep” when the viewpoint is static. Also, the dynamic viewpoint has more influence than the static viewpoint.
  • Visual Evaluation Factors of Interior Material Textures and Physical Properties Related to Those Factors

    In this study, a sensory evaluation experiment of automotive interior material textures was conducted, and factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed to elucidate the visual evaluation factors. As a result, 7 evaluation factors were extracted. In those evaluations, "authentic", "deep", and "unique" are three effective main factors affecting on the overall evaluations of “high-grade” and “preferable”. Furthermore, highlights and shades of brightness and so on were extracted as candidates of physical properties affecting “deep” as the main factors.

    In this study, the multiple regression analysis to elucidate the visual evaluation factors for each specification of automotive interior material textures was performed. As a result, the "authentic", "deep", and "unique" were the main factors of all specifications on overall evaluations. Furthermore, “handmade” was extracted as an effective main factor for “high-grade” of Wood with Wood Grain (WWG) and Metal with Hairline (MH), and“dark” was extracted for “preferable” of WWG and MH. In addition, “modern” was extracted for decorative film coated plastics.

The guidelines utilize the synthetic vector between standard partial regression coefficients of the main factors on the constellation diagram of samples and those clusters.

    This paper describes the evaluation factors for each cluster of interior material textures. As a result, those textures divided into woody type and metallic type, further each type was were classified to the common and uncommon type. The main factors in those common and uncommon types are "authenticity" and "deep", furthermore, the evaluation structure of the uncommon types are complex. In addition, in response to these results, a guideline for the creation of a new value is shown by further promoting optimized design for common type and expanding the emergent design for uncommon type.
