    When the vehicle system controls in automatic driving and driving assistant, it is important for the system side to match the driver. In this study, in order to examine the characteristics of driving preferred by the driver, we extracted by using driving simulator, characteristics of driving that the driver subjectively felt was good and investigated the items that are important when judging whether driving is good or bad.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the back posture change and lumbar support position that can reduce driver's seating fatigue by using a muscle potential measurement device and a posture measurement device. We evaluated the back muscle activity and posture measurement in the seated state, and combined them with the results obtained from the posture measurement and driving fatigue evaluations conducted separately for a long period of time. As a result, it was confirmed that the driver's driving fatigue can be reduced by supporting the back position where posture changes occur with a decrease in muscle activity and a large amount of lumbar displacement.

    Automatic driving technology of cars is rapidly developed now. The driving sovereignty moves from self-driving system to a human driver under certain conditions in the level 3 of the automatic driving technology. The transfer has to perform smoothly and not to give incongruity to the human driver. Otherwise the driving behavior of the human after the transfer becomes unstable. For the development of the self-driving system, the cooperative driving behavior by two humans is analyzed from the viewpoint of energy flow in this paper. An experimental device with two steering wheels, two accelerator pedals and two break pedals were developed for the experiment of two humans cooperative driving. The experimental results show that the switching number of the energy flow direction is small in the smooth transfer operation.

    In this research, we aim to evaluate the acceptability of the steering intervention support system introducing the impedance control of the steering torque command equipped with multiple HMIs such as HUD and sound effects.

    Using the damping ratio as an evaluation index, we examine the change of the damping ratio that compatible with acceptability and safety by changing the use situation of HMI. Experimental results of subjective and objective evaluation showed that the system acceptability of the driver improved by introducing the sound effect 1 second before, and it was confirmed that the steering safety improves in the low damping ratio range.

    In order to reduce fatigue of drivers who are driving for a long time, we examined the fatigue reduction effect of drivers using supporting devices. In this research, we proposed an assistive technique using the waist and pelvic seat. By carrying out the driving experiment using the driving simulator, we confirmed the posture change by using the support device, and evaluated driver's fatigue by both biological information and subjective evaluation. As a result, it was found that the fatigue of the seat provided with the supporting device was smaller than the fatigue of the seat without the supporting device.

    Reducing driver’s fatigue during long time driving has been a major theme for us as a seat maker. We have focused on a back support mechanism which influences driver’s posture. We predicted that drivers’fatigue levelwould change in accordance with the change of back support position. During the study we measured not only fatigue reduction effect but also muscle activity along with support position change. Through examining the correlation between the data, the driver’s optimum support position was expected to be found out. As a result of conducting driving test by driving simulator to measure driver’s fatigue level by biologicalinformation and having subjective assessment, it was found that change of driver’s back support position caused a difference in fatigue reduction effect: when the driver’s fatigue level was low, there was less muscle activity.

    In recent years, the traffic accident shows gradual decreasing in the number of fatalities, whereas slowly decreasing the total number of accidents and injuries. In order to decrease the total number of car-pedestrian accident, it is necessary to investigate what kind of accident has happened and evaluate driver's behavior. So the feature of accident and near-crash incident involving pedestrian was analyzed from near-miss incident database. And to estimate driver's behavior on driving simulators, near-miss incident database data was fitting on the scnarios of driving simulator.

    Recently, the percentage of traffic accident by elderly driver is increasing. According to researches of all accident types, the accident rate by the elderly drivers at right-turn in unsignalized intersection is higher compared to young drivers. This study develops the collision avoidance assistance system with crossing vehicle in unsignalized intersection rightturn. First, this paper describes the system to search the command value of waiting time and acceleration by using the cost function on the right-turn model and risk assessment index. Next, to evaluate the five types of cost function, the subjects evaluated each assistance system using driving simulator. In the experiment, the subjects evaluated the systems in three scenario; 1) system-equipped vehicle merge the front of the ego vehicle 2) system-equipped vehicle merge the rear of the ego vehicle 3) ego vehicle is controlled by the assistance system automatically. Finally, the experimental results show that the right-turning assistance systems are acceptable for drivers.

    Visual information would influence the perceptual sensitivity for vibrations of vehicle motions as well as bodily information. This would be known generally but the detailed mechanism has not been sure yet. We are trying revealing the mechanism and the contribution ratio of visual/bodily information by using the driving simulator. In this paper, we would show some results of the experiments, especially and pitch direction.

    Resent year, the pedestrian fatality accounts for the great majority. Therefore, it is important to prevent pedestrians from being involved in fatal accidents. In the previous study, the authors proposed the safety speed index at overtaking a pedestrian in narrow roads. This study focuses on drivers' behaviors in the target scene in the Near-miss Incident Database. By comparing driving data in the Near-miss Incident Database and the proposed safety speed index, the validity of the proposed safety speed index is shown.

    Automatic braking systems have been studied to prevent rear-end crashes. It is pointed out that driver's behaviors could be changed by introducing such collision avoidance systems. Thus, it is important to understand the driver's behavioral changes with such systems and to apply the results to its better design for effective use of the assistance system. On the other hand, a deceleration assistance control for collision avoidance based on driver's perceptual risk has been proposed. This system has an advantage that activation timing of the automatic braking can be changed by changing a parameter in the control method that allows the system to generate deceleration profile uniformly without any complex calculation. In this paper, effect of the braking timing of the system on the driver's behavioral changes will be investigated.

    This paper proposes a method to characterize hurried driving from the viewpoint of attention allocation. When overtaking another car, drivers need to manage the collision risk by allocating their attention appropriately, thus increasing their mental workload. However, drivers' hurrying mental status likely arises in such situations, even though it is risky. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between the risk of collision with surrounding vehicles and attention allocation when overtaking other vehicles. We will show that hurried driving can be characterized by outliers from the modeled distribution of normal driving in terms of the relationship between collision risk with the lead vehicle and continuous gaze time to the rear vehicle. Furthermore, a potential method to detect hurried driving is proposed by applying the results.

    Driver assistance for cognition and judgment is effective for reducing traffic accidents. However, environment recognition by the sensor is not perfect in the real world. False and missing alarms may cause dangerous situations or disuse of the system by losing driver's trust. We propose a warning method corresponding to recognition reliability of the sensor to suppress reduction of trust from the standpoint of risk engineering. In this research, evaluation experiments using a driving simulator were conducted for a lane change decision aide system. Effectiveness of the proposed warning method was verified when using the sensor with some errors.

    Driver's workload tends to be increased during driving under complicated traffic environment like lane change. In such cases, rear collision warning is effective for reduction of cognitive workload. On the other hand, it is pointed out that false alarm or missing alarm caused by sensor errors causes decrease of driver's trust in the warning system and it can result in low efficiency of the system. In this paper, supposing that information of the recognition reliability of the sensor is provided in real-time, we propose the new warning method that displays information calling for attention when the recognition reliability is low to reduce false alarm and missing alarm and maintain the trust in the system. The effectiveness of this warning method was confirmed with a driving simulator.
