Automatic driving technology of cars is rapidly developed now. The driving sovereignty moves from self-driving system to a human driver under certain conditions in the level 3 of the automatic driving technology. The transfer has to perform smoothly and not to give incongruity to the human driver. Otherwise the driving behavior of the human after the transfer becomes unstable. For the development of the self-driving system, the cooperative driving behavior by two humans is analyzed from the viewpoint of energy flow in this paper. An experimental device with two steering wheels, two accelerator pedals and two break pedals were developed for the experiment of two humans cooperative driving. The experimental results show that the switching number of the energy flow direction is small in the smooth transfer operation.
In this research, we aim to evaluate the acceptability of the steering intervention support system introducing the impedance control of the steering torque command equipped with multiple HMIs such as HUD and sound effects.
Using the damping ratio as an evaluation index, we examine the change of the damping ratio that compatible with acceptability and safety by changing the use situation of HMI. Experimental results of subjective and objective evaluation showed that the system acceptability of the driver improved by introducing the sound effect 1 second before, and it was confirmed that the steering safety improves in the low damping ratio range.
In order to reduce fatigue of drivers who are driving for a long time, we examined the fatigue reduction effect of drivers using supporting devices. In this research, we proposed an assistive technique using the waist and pelvic seat. By carrying out the driving experiment using the driving simulator, we confirmed the posture change by using the support device, and evaluated driver's fatigue by both biological information and subjective evaluation. As a result, it was found that the fatigue of the seat provided with the supporting device was smaller than the fatigue of the seat without the supporting device.
In recent years, the traffic accident shows gradual decreasing in the number of fatalities, whereas slowly decreasing the total number of accidents and injuries. In order to decrease the total number of car-pedestrian accident, it is necessary to investigate what kind of accident has happened and evaluate driver's behavior. So the feature of accident and near-crash incident involving pedestrian was analyzed from near-miss incident database. And to estimate driver's behavior on driving simulators, near-miss incident database data was fitting on the scnarios of driving simulator.
Recently, the percentage of traffic accident by elderly driver is increasing. According to researches of all accident types, the accident rate by the elderly drivers at right-turn in unsignalized intersection is higher compared to young drivers. This study develops the collision avoidance assistance system with crossing vehicle in unsignalized intersection rightturn. First, this paper describes the system to search the command value of waiting time and acceleration by using the cost function on the right-turn model and risk assessment index. Next, to evaluate the five types of cost function, the subjects evaluated each assistance system using driving simulator. In the experiment, the subjects evaluated the systems in three scenario; 1) system-equipped vehicle merge the front of the ego vehicle 2) system-equipped vehicle merge the rear of the ego vehicle 3) ego vehicle is controlled by the assistance system automatically. Finally, the experimental results show that the right-turning assistance systems are acceptable for drivers.
