本研究は抗糖尿病薬Metforminの膵臓癌などの難治性消化器癌に対する癌抑制効果を証明し、関連するmiRNAの同定を解析した。
in vitro,in vivoの検討で、いずれの癌種においてもMetfromin投与群では、細胞増殖は時間濃度依存的に抑制され、癌細胞株をG1周期停止に導いていた。miRNAアレイの検討では減弱していた細胞周期関連蛋白をターゲットとするmiRNAが認められ、癌細胞抑制効果に対するmiRNAの関与が示唆された。これら結果から、Metforminは副作用も少なく、難治性消化器癌に癌抑制効果が期待される薬剤であると証明した。
